Congratulations
CONGRATULATIONS. Being selected to conduct an Explorer phase A study is a marvelous accomplishment. It validates your concept as being world class science (as determined by a peer review) and an implementable mission concept (also as determined by a peer review). Please convey my congratulations to your entire team.
Some quick notes to supplement what I told you on the phone.
- You will receive an official letter from Ed Weiler in the mail. Attached is the template for that letter, so you can see what is in it.
- The kickoff meeting is November 21 at the Greenbelt Marriott. It is an all day meeting; I will send you the agenda next week. Jim Byrd of GSFC will be providing information on logistics. You should make travel plans for your team. At the kickoff meeting, we will (i) provide the ground rules for Phase A, (ii) debrief you on the evaluation of your stage 1 proposal, (iii) offer the opportunity to meet with small teams concerning your award (i.e. funding), Explorer mission assurance expectations, E/PO expectations, etc. If there is any information that you require, please let me know.
- During Phase A, I occasionally send out information to the Phase A teams. I do not want the PI to be a single point failure in communication. Please provide me a short list of e-mail addresses that I should send information to (e.g. PI, deputy PI, PM, SE, institutional lead, whatever).
- All information, announcements, documents, Q&A, etc., concerning the SMEX downselect will be posted on the Web at http://spacescience.nasa.gov/codesr/smex/. I'll have this page up-and-running in a few days.
Also attached is the press release.
