MIDEX Science Presentations to Space Science Board of Directors
(Part 4)

The MIDEX Science Presentations to the Associate Administrator and the Science Board of Directors will take place on Tuesday 14 September at NASA Headquarters.

The presentations will take place in the Multifunction Room (a.k.a. the Multipurpose Room), room CG46, on the Concourse Level (a.k.a the basement). The room is unlabeled and unnumbered, so I will have signs directing you to the room from the elevator banks. I am sorry to tell you that this is not a very good room for this meeting. I had an excellent room reserved months ago, but last week I lost it to a "high ranking government official." Room CG46 is used for parties and aerobics classes. It has a wooden floor and floor-to-ceiling mirrors. The acoustics are poor.

I have arranged for the following equipment to be available for your presentations:
- two overhead projectors
- a VHS player and monitor
- an in-focus projector for a computer (n.b. you have to contact me in advance to use this so we can arrange compatibility issues -- you can not walk-in and expect to use it)
- an A-frame easel
I have requested a horseshoe table up front for the AA and Board and for your team (and maybe me, if there is room). There will be chairs behind the table for other NASA HQ staff to attend; I expect interest from the discipline scientists in the research division among others.

Visitor badges have been arranged for all members of your presentation team except for GSFC and JPL employees. Please enter NASA HQ at the west entrance (of the two entrances to NASA HQ, it is the one closer to the corner of 4th and E Streets SW but further from the SW Federal Center stop on the Metro Blue/Orange lines). At the security desk, tell the guard you are on the visitor list and a badge is waiting for you.

You will not be allowed to attend any presentation other than your own. The corollary is that you are free to discuss proprietary information during your presentation. I have reserved the small conference room 4K31 for you to wait in if you arrive at NASA HQ before your scheduled presentation time (or if we are running late). I will come to 4K31 to get you when it is time to set up for your presentation. Please go directly to 4K31 when you arrive at NASA HQ. If the previous team has already finished before you arrive, I will leave a note in 4K31 telling you it is time to come to CG46.

The schedule is:

8:15 Full-sky Astrometric Mapping Explorer
9:30 Auroral Multiscale Midex
10:45 Swift Gamma Ray Burst Explorer
12:30 Advanced Solar Coronal Explorer
1:45 Next Generation Sky Survey
I would appreciate it if you arrive a little early for your presentations as the Board may wish to accelerate the schedule by taking less time between presentations. Except for FAME - we are not starting before 8:15.

The guidelines for the presentations remain unchanged. They are here. I want to remind you of two specific guidelines. You have only 45 minutes for your presentation, including Q&A with the AA and the Board. I suggest you plan on a 35 minute presentation and allow 10 minutes for Q&A. Also, I will be briefing the AA and the Board on the findings from the Concept Study Report evaluation before next Tuesday. They will therefore be familiar with your mission and have a broad picture of your mission implementation plan.
